Getting the right fit for you in your Xero Shoes
If you’ve ordered or are looking to order shoes…
Shoe fitting is more about personal preference than geometry - 3 people with identical feet, could try the same shoe, and they could have 3 different opinions about whether the shoe fits.
So, we recommend trying them on to see what you think. If you’re planning to wear your shoes with socks, try them on that way. If you want a more barefoot experience, you can try them in bare feet or with a very thin sock. You can also experiment with removing the sockliner (insole) for an even “more barefoot” experience or to help get your ideal fit.
If you ordered or are looking to order sandals…
Similarly, length is a bit of personal preference. Some people want their toes up to the front edge, some people like them slightly further back, and some people even wear their sandals so that their toes hang slightly over the front edge — it’s entirely up to you!
You can use the size guide below to get started, the CM measurements are for your foot length so you can find your UK size needed. Check out the fit advice on the product page, some of our styles may require sizing up or down - this is based on our customer feedback to help guide you to the best fit.
We recommend measuring from heel to longest toes on both feet and using the longest length when ordering for the most comfortable fit. Most people's feet aren't perfectly symmetrical, so it's very possible your one foot is slightly longer, wider, or shaped differently than your other
What size should I order?
We recommend starting with your usual size, but here are a few general guidelines to help you decide:
Wear a whole size? Stick with your regular size.
- If you typically wear a half size (like a 8.5, 9.5), consider going up to the next whole size when recommended on the product page. (excluding sandals)
- Prefer a little extra room? Sizing up may feel more comfortable.
- As a reference, moving up a half size generally adds about ¼ inch in length and ⅛ inch in width

If most of your shoes feel good in a certain size, it’s okay to stay consistent with that and go up or down a size if recommended.

Men's
- All of our men’s shoes are wider than conventional men’s shoes. If you normally wear a larger size to get a wider fit in conventional shoes, you may not have to do that with Xero Shoes.
- Natural materials (like leather or canvas) may stretch during initial wear.
- Our shoes are designed wide (almost EE in the toe box) to allow the foot to flex and bend naturally.
- If you think of your foot as particularly narrow, you can consider ordering a women’s style.
- Many of our male customers find a great fit in our women’s styles. Just be sure to adjust the size by 1.5 for closed shoes (for example a men’s US 7 is the same as a women’s US 8.5), and 1 for sandals.
- People like different types of fit — some like their toes near the end, others like 1/4″-1/2″ of extra space.

Kids
- All of our children’s shoes are wider than conventional children’s shoes. If you normally wear a larger size to get a wider fit in conventional shoes, you may not have to do that with Xero Shoes.
- Natural materials (like leather or canvas) may stretch during initial wear.
- If your child is between sizes, go with the larger one for wiggle room and growth.
- If you think of your foot is a bit longer than the youth size 3, you can consider ordering the narrower but longer women’s style.
- A Women's US 6 is approximately a half size larger than our Youth US 4, making it a natural transition into adult sizes.
- People like different types of fit — some like their toes near the end, others like 0.5 cm – 1.5 cm of extra space, if so you then you can look to order the next size up.
